Improving Active Travel Routes In Caerphilly County Borough
Caerphilly County Borough Council is calling on residents to get in touch if they have suggestions for improving active travel routes within Caerphilly county borough.
The Active Travel (Wales) Act places duties upon local councils in Wales to map, plan for, improve and promote opportunities for active travel.
Active travel means walking and cycling for every day journeys. This includes journeys to school, work, shops or to access services, for example health centres or leisure centres. Active travel does not include walking and cycling for recreational purposes.
Residents with suggestions on how active travel routes could be improved or where new routes are needed within Caerphilly county borough are encouraged to get in touch and have their say. For example, residents may have suggestions about:
- A journey they currently use for walking or cycling that could be improved for active travel journeys
- A missing walking or cycling link that, if provided, could encourage more active travel journeys.
All suggestions will be considered and will provide important information in development of the Integrated Network Map, a walking and cycling plan for the Caerphilly county borough which will be created and submitted to the Welsh Government before the end of September 2017.
The plan will help set out the council’s prioritises for improving active travel routes and facilities over the next 15 years. The Integrated Network Map will show the proposed future network of key walking and cycling routes, and is likely to include short, medium and long term schemes.
Residents with a suggestion are asked to get in touch with the team by emailing activetravel@caerphilly.gov.uk or by calling 01495 235059 before the closing date of Friday 30th September.
There will also be a further opportunity to provide views on the draft Integrated Network Map during a consultation period scheduled in Spring/Summer 2017 before the final map is submitted to Welsh Government.
