Caerphilly Council’s Registrar’s Team had a busy year in 2016 taking details from the delighted parents of around 1,450 babies who are brand new residents of the county. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In addition to registering the birth of babies, the team also performed a number of naming ceremonies. The unique service offers new parents a non-religious way of celebrating the birth of a child and welcoming the new arrival into the family and the wider community. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Including the new born babies, more than 11,000 people visited the office last year which is home to the team who register births, deaths and marriages. The full range of services on offer includes; legal notices of marriage and civil partnerships, citizenship ceremonies and the issue of certificates. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Superintendent Registrar Della Mahony said, “No day is ever the same for our Registrar Team, we have so many happy and sad circumstances in which we meet people. It is a very rewarding job and it is safe to say we laugh and smile with people every day as well as sharing some of the sadness on occasion, whilst providing a personal yet professional service.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

In addition to the day to day registration services the team also perform marriages and civil partnerships. A total of 550 couples were married in the presence of their friends and family in the tasteful and intimate Penallta House ceremony room and other licensed venues in the district. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, Cllr. Nigel George said, “The Registrar Team deal with all aspects of people’s lives providing vital and professional services to thousands of customer’s year on year.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
