Planned Demolition For Lansbury Footbridge
Following a consultation with residents the council has set plans in motion to demolish the footbridge branded a ‘public eyesore’ by Lansbury residents.
More than 86% of survey respondents agreed with plans to demolish the footbridge following a report that outlined the 1960’s bridge would need considerable repair.
The bridge which currently provides a pedestrian route from the rear of Greenwood Court and Trevelyan Court linking to a footpath leading to the shopping centre road, will be demolished and replaced with new lengths of footpath, dropped kerbs and tactile paving to ensure a safe route to the footpath is created.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr. Dave Poole said, “We have listened to resident’s views and are taking action on their behalf. The removal of the bridge will greatly improve the general look of the estate and compliment the exterior works currently in progress.”
BT are currently on site re-routing a cable that was built into the bridge. Following the completion of the BT works, contractors Dyer and Butler Ltd will begin the demolition of the bridge which is anticipated to begin in early March and take up to 5 weeks.
