Primary School Pupils Prepare To Move On

To mark the end of the school year, Caerphilly County Borough Council has visited three schools to speak to year six pupils about how they feel about moving on from Primary School to Secondary School. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Pupils from Ty Sign, Nant-Y-Parc and Tyn-Y-Wern Primary Schools took part in the project, explaining why they’ve enjoyed being pupils at their primary school. Pupils showcased what makes their primary school special, from fantastic IT facilities to major sporting achievements. They explained why their excited to start secondary school in September, how their looking forward to making new friends and the new opportunities that await them. They also spoke about what they are nervous about – be it getting lost, forgetting homework or dealing with a larger workload. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Louis, 11 from Ty Sign primary said: “I’ve enjoyed being a pupil in this school because everything is amazing. I’m looking forward to starting Comprehensive to do more sports, like rugby, and there are new subjects to learn. I am nervous about the work because when you move up a year the work gets harder.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Teachers were on hand to give advice about looking after each other, working hard, grasping every opportunity, and most importantly, behaving! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cllr. Derek Havard, cabinet Member for Education & Lifelong Learning said: “I am delighted to hear these pupils talk about how much they have enjoyed Primary School and the opportunities which have been on offer to them. Starting Secondary School is a major milestone in a young person’s life and I am sure that they are more than prepared for the challenges ahead. I wish all pupils across the county borough the very best of luck as they move on and am sure they will enjoy the brilliant opportunities, new friendships and experiences which are to come. I still have strong memories of how much I enjoyed my Primary School and the mixed feelings I had about moving to Secondary, but you quickly find your feet and soon make new friends and enjoy new and exciting experiences.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
