A renewable power generation scheme at Trehir Landfill Site has been unveiled.
The scheme at Trehir, Llanbradach, hosts a 50KW electrical generation plant and is on target to deliver 408 MWH of renewable energy to the National Grid every year, enough to provide energy for up to 127 homes.
The project developed by energy specialists Alphagen Renewables involves the capture of methane from the Council’s former disposal site. The generator itself will save the equivalent of approximately 2,700 tonnes of CO2 per year being released to the atmosphere.
Cllr. Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community & Leisure Services said “This eco-friendly scheme is capturing a valuable resource and converting it into electricity for the National Grid. It is another example of how Caerphilly County Borough Council continues to support the Wellbeing of our future generations through innovative environmental projects ”
