South Wales Armed Forces Day – How To Get There!
The countdown is on to this weekend’s Armed Forces Day event in Caerphilly and thousands of people are expected to descend on the town centre to support our troops and enjoy the wide range of events and activities on offer.
Caerphilly county borough council is urging the community to turn out and line the parade route as hundreds of military personnel march through the town.
The key timings for the day are as follows: –
- 11am to 11.30am – Military parade though Caerphilly (starting at St Martin’s School at 11am)
- 12noon to 12.30pm – Drumhead service at the rear of Caerphilly Castle
- 1pm to 6pm – Live music stage – Crescent Road, Caerphilly
- 1pm to 4.30pm Arena acts – including a field gun, parachute and semaphore displays
Free Park and Ride
A free Park and Ride will operate from St Cenydd School, St Cenydd Road, Caerphilly, CF83 2RP to the event site. The car park opens at 9am and closes at 6pm. Buses will operate at least every 10 minutes from 9am. Last bus from the event site is 5.45pm Please note – buses will not operate between 10.30am and 11.30am due to road closures
Park and Walk
A free ‘Park and Walk’ facility is also available at the Y Gwyndy campus (former St Ilan School) from 9am to 6.30pm. The site is located on Pontygwindy Road, Caerphilly, CF83 3HG.
Buses
Regular buses operate to Caerphilly from most areas of the county borough as well as Cardiff, Newport and Pontypridd. Please be aware that buses will be suspended or diverted in the town centre between 10.30am and approximately 11.45am during the parade.
Trains
Trains operate every 15 minutes between Cardiff, Caerphilly & Bargoed with and hourly service to Rhymney.
Car parking
Caerphilly town centre has a number of pay and display car parks.
