Sport Caerphilly, along with volunteers from Whitchurch Valleys Hockey Club, recently hosted the first ever Rush Hockey event under UV lighting at Caerphilly Leisure Centre. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The event engaged 40 girls aged 14-15 years old from Bedwas High School as they took part in a number of activities during the session. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Those who attended the event received two beauty treatments delivered by students from Coleg Y Cymoedd, as well as experiencing the UV tweet Suite where glow in the dark body paints and glow bands were available. This was followed by the Rush Hockey session under UV light which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The innovative event was organised with the aim of encouraging year 10 female pupils to experience hockey in a fun and unique environment, with the hope of potentially encouraging some participants to become members of Whitchurch Valleys Hockey Club. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said: “I am delighted that Sport Caerphilly’s UV hockey event was such a great success. I hope this has encouraged others to take part Rush Hockey, as this is an excellent way to improve physical wellbeing. Well done to everyone involved”.
Rush Hockey is a new 5 a side version of the sport played either indoors or outdoors on a smaller pitch than that designed for conventional hockey. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
