Young People Promote Equality And Awareness
Young people from across Caerphilly county borough have been taking part in various activities as part of LGBT History Month.
The Caerphilly Youth Service have offered a range of awareness raising activities throughout February, with the Basement in Blackwood hosting a week-long programme of activities during half term for young people to take part in.
Activities included quizzes, exploring identities and matching the LGBT community flags to their names and learning the meanings. Young people who attended the sessions also wore the LGBT rainbow badge emblem to help promote equality and awareness.
This awareness raising activity follows the introduction of a new project, organised by the Caerphilly Youth Service to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and other young people (LGBTQ+) who are questioning their gender and/or sexuality.
Sessions are held on the last Saturday of every month at Blackwood Basement in Blackwood Library between 12pm and 3pm.
Cabinet Member Cllr Derek Havard said, “It’s excellent that young people have the opportunity to gain greater awareness and understanding as part of LGBT History Month. The support project run by our Youth Service continues to prove popular, providing key support to young people during what can be a difficult time in their lives. Well done to all involved in these projects”.
