Caerphilly County Borough Council is reminding residents not to place marketing, promotional or political signage along stretches of public highway in the build-up to Local Government elections. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

No banners or signage should ever be placed on public land, however in the build up to an election this often becomes more of an issue than usual. Signage can cause a serious distraction to drivers, and also become a danger to all road users as it is often not secured safely. No items should be placed on public fencing, trees, traffic lights or lampposts. Caerphilly County Borough Council Highways Officers have a duty to remove any obstructions or signage that are on Highway land or present a danger to the Highway or its users. The Council will monitor for compliance and if an individual or organisation is found not adhering to this policy the Council will pursue removal of the illegal sign and look to recover all associated costs. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr. Tom Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transportation & Engineering said: “Banners placed along the highway cause a dangerous risk to both road users and pedestrians. They often obstruct a drivers view of the road and create an unnecessary distraction. Caerphilly County Borough Council continues to take a zero tolerance approach to all signage illegally placed on the public highway and will remove any such items.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
