Caerphilly County Borough Council is reminding residents not to place marketing, promotional or political signage along stretches of public highway in the build-up to the EU Referendum. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

No banners or signage should ever be placed on public land, however in the build up to an election or referendum this often becomes more of an issue than usual. Signage can cause a serious distraction to drivers, and also become a danger to all road users as it is often not secured safely. Caerphilly County Borough Council Highways Officers have a duty to remove any obstructions or signage that are on Highway land or present a danger to the Highway or its users. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cllr. Tom Williams, Cabinet Member for Highways, Transportation & Engineering said: “Banners and signage cause a real risk to both road users and pedestrians. They are a dangerous distraction, often obscuring a driver’s view of the road. Caerphilly County Borough Council takes a zero tolerance approach to all signage illegally placed on the public highway and will remove any such items.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
