All Done! Pontprennau Primary School Is Complete
It’s been smiles all round this week at Pontprennau primary as staff and pupils celebrate the handover of the school after contractors completed the brand new build.
Pontprennau Primary School opened last September when children from Reception and Nursery became the first pupils to walk through the school gates.
Since then everyone connected with the school has been working hard to complete the project to deliver the brand new facilities for the community and that work paid off this week as Pontprennau was finished.
The children can now enjoy an outdoor learning space which includes a play roadway and a climbing wall, as well as a large outdoor partially grassed area with play equipment, a planting area and an amphitheatre.
Inside there is a well-stocked library, a dance studio for music, dance and drama lessons and after-school clubs, 12 classrooms, two group rooms, a food technology and science room and large multi-purpose areas.
Welcoming the achievement, head teacher Lizzie Dykes said: “We owe huge thanks to the team who have worked tirelessly to create what we hope will be a school to be immensely proud of. It is unique in its design – there is no other school quite like it!
“We are also very grateful for all of the support from Cardiff Council, the Central South Consortium, both the temporary and the permanent Governing Bodies, the dedicated school staff, our pupils and their families and the local community.
“We guarantee that with this continued support, we can create a school that is the pride of Pontprennau!”
The school will grow each year until September 2021, when the current Reception children will be the first Year Six group.
The school will cater for up to 420 pupils between the age of four and 11 and the nursery has enough room for 48 full-time equivalent places in either a morning or afternoon session.
