Big Family Butterfly Count At Forest Farm

Do you love butterflies? Fancy some counting? Then the Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff team need your help! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The Big Butterfly Count is the world’s largest Butterfly Survey and between 11am and 2pm on July 30th the team are inviting as many families as possible to volunteer and help count our fluttering friends at Forest Farm. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

All volunteers will be trained in the art of butterfly identification so it doesn’t matter if you don’t know a Cabbage White from a Red Admiral – and once the counting’s done you can unpack your picnic and relax in a beautiful meadow full of summer flowers and lots of fun family activities. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire, said: “Butterflies are excellent indicators of biodiversity and the Big Butterfly Count is a great way for families to get in touch with the nature on their doorstep. Out at Forest Farm you could almost forget you’re in a city and as well as going home with the memory of a great day in the great outdoors you’ll be doing some really important work for the environment.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Carolyn Robertson, Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff Project Manager, said: “Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff is lucky to work with so many dedicated volunteers who help people get closer to nature all across Cardiff.
