Charity might begin at home but Trading Standards in Cardiff are reminding residents that it doesn’t have to begin on your doorstep.
The warning comes following a number of complaints about high pressure sales tactics being used by charity workers going door to door to seek donations.
The charity workers are reportedly very persistent in asking residents to sign up to regular payments. Such pressure can be intimidating, particularly to those who could be considered vulnerable and may breach the terms of the callers House to House Collection Permit.
Cabinet Member for Skills, Safety, Engagement and Democracy, Cllr Daniel De’Ath, said: “Cardiff residents already give thousands and thousands of pounds to good causes every year so the use of high pressure sales tactics to elicit donations on the doorstep is not just unacceptable, it’s unnecessary.”
Anybody who encounters high pressure sales tactics from a charity worker on their doorstep is asked to contact the City of Cardiff Council’s Licencing Department on 02920871651.
