Fans from Cardiff and across South Wales will have the opportunity to watch Wales’ European Championship matches on a giant HD screen in Cooper’s Field in Bute Park this month. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

A partnership between City of Cardiff Council, Sayers Amusements Ltd., BBC Wales, the Football Association of Wales and Sport Cardiff will offer supporters the chance to cheer on Chris Coleman’s boys at public screenings in one of Cardiff’s most attractive parks. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The games will be shown on a high-resolution, mobile LED screen and pre-match entertainment will be provided by local bands on a Live Music Stage. A bar, soft drink bar and food stalls will also be available on site. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Leader of City of Cardiff Council, Cllr Phil Bale said: “This is a great result for Cardiff and Wales fans. I’m delighted we’ve been able to pull it together. We’ve been working behind the scenes to find the right partners to make it possible. It is only fitting that Wales’ fantastic achievement of reaching a major tournament for the first time since 1958 is marked by a public event like this and I am sure I speak for the entire nation when I wish Wales all the very best in France this month.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The owner of Sayers Amusements Ltd., Norman Sayer said: “For many years we’ve been involved with running events in Cardiff and south Wales and this is an incredible opportunity for us to say thanks to the people of Cardiff and also to support Wales.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

There will be lots of fun activities for all the family at the fanzone including fairground attractions and football activities which will test reaction times and the speed a football can be kicked. Volunteers from the Lord Mayor’s charity Cancer Research Wales will also be collecting at the fanzone. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: “This is an ideal opportunity for families to have a fun day out whilst cheering on our national side and I hope Wales are as successful as I am sure this event will be.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Richard Thomas, Head of BBC Wales Marketing, Communications and Audiences, said: “We know how much demand there is for a fanzone in our capital city, and we’re pleased to play our part in making it a reality. If you’re not one of the lucky supporters who’ll be at Euro2016, it’s all on BBC One Wales, S4C, our radio stations and online – as well as live on the big screen at Cooper’s Field. It’s our time and Wales fans won’t miss a thing.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Wales’ first match is against Slovakia next Saturday with fanzone gates opening at 3pm and closing at 10pm. The much anticipated match against England is on Thursday, June 16 with gates opening at 12noon and closing at 8pm. The final group game against Russia is on June, 20 and gates open at 4pm and close at 10pm. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Fans are advised that food or drink is not allowed to be taken to the fanzone and supporters are also asked not to bring dogs or garden furniture to the big screen. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The fanzone is completely free to attend and access is via Bute Park’s west and north gates. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
