Forest Farm Is Wild About Cardiff!

Forest Farm is home to everything Wild About Cardiff – making it the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life for a day of nature filled adventure. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Children will love pulling on their muddy boots, picking up their pond nets and magnifying glasses and setting out to explore the bird, bug and pond life to be found in the waterways and woodland of this 150 acre nature reserve and with adult-friendly nature walks as well as plenty of tea, coffee and cake to go around there’s something for nature lovers of all ages. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Wild About Cardiff takes place on Saturday June 4th between 10am and 4pm. Activities run by the knowledgeable Community Ranger Service and RSPB Cymru as part of the Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff project alongside the Friends of Forest Farm will include: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

  • adult and children’s walks to discover more about the Herons, Kingfishers and other birds that nest in the nature reserve.
  • an afternoon walk where your knowledge of plants will blossom.
  • bug hunts and pond dipping adventures throughout the day.
  • a scavenger hunt for colourful pieces of nature are used to create a ‘nature-palette’.
    community art activities.

Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire, said: “Nature and green space are very much at the heart of what makes Cardiff such a liveable city. This event is a great way for children and adults alike to have a real nature adventure right here in Cardiff that will hopefully sow a seed of interest in nature that will protect it long into the future.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Carolyn Robertson, Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff Project Manager, said: “Giving Nature a Home in Cardiff brings thousands of young people across the city closer to nature where they can truly appreciate their local wildlife. We’re looking forward to hosting a range of fun activities for the whole family at Forest Farm, where children can discover the bright colours of Cardiff during our wildlife scavenger hunt. We want people to get out and enjoy everything the great outdoors has to offer and have fun exploring the fantastic nature we have on our doorstep.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
