Fun At The Hub In Fairwater

A community fun day to celebrate the new Fairwater hub will be held next week. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

To mark its official opening, there’ll be lots going on at the new community hub on Friday, July 15 (2pm-5pm) including live music, community stalls, balloon modelling, storytime and an animal corner. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

There will also be the chance to find out more about volunteering opportunities at the hub. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The hub opened its doors to the public in May following the extension and upgrade of the former Fairwater Library building on Doyle Avenue. The new facility now offers a range of services including library provision with a quiet area and space for children’s events, housing and benefit advice, money advice, free internet and WiFi access and free phones to contact council and other services. Into Work Advice is also available as well as information and events provided by Communities First. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The hub also boasts a new IT suite, private interview rooms and a meeting room. Trained staff are on hand to help people access services while partner organisations visit providing specialist help and advice. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury, said: “There have been great improvements to the council services on offer in Fairwater as the Council seeks to bring the services people need to them in a convenient way. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“The new hub is right at the heart of the community and I’m sure anyone who has visited since the refurbishments will be very impressed. If people in the local community haven’t visited yet, next week’s fun day is the perfect opportunity to come along. There’ll be lots going on.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
