Get It Out For Cardiff Is Back
The award-winning Get It Out for Cardiff (GIOFC) scheme is back for another big year of recycling and re-use.
Get it Out for Cardiff is the City of Cardiff Council initiative in association with Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University and the University of South Wales, which helps students to clear out their rubbish at the end of the academic year. The aim is to ensure that moving out of student accommodation at the end of term is stress-free and leaves our communities clean, tidy and green.
This year the scheme includes:
• 23 Green Zones across the city university sites where clothing, food (tins, packets, jars etc), small electrical items, books, CDs, DVDs and kitchen items (plates, mugs, utensils, pans etc) can be donated.
• 16 YMCA re-use banks are in place all year round to collect clothes, shoes, bags, textiles, small electrical items, books, CDs/DVDs.
• New ‘pop up’ donation points for you to be able to donate items before you leave. Donation points will be open on the last three Saturdays in June, so don’t throw it out before you leave, visit us at one of the locations listed here
• Flexible waste removal services from our teams, to assist residents without access to a vehicle or who are unable to place their move-out waste out on the correct collection day to dispose of recycling, waste and bulky items. To arrange a quote and collection of recycling and waste on a flexible day, contact the team on (029) 2071 77 61 For the removal of up to 6 bulky waste items, contact C2C on (029) 2087 2087. We can provide a quote on request for larger amounts of bulky waste items via our commercial waste team on (029) 2071 75 01.
• The chance to recycle unwanted bicycles via Cardiff Cycle Workshop.
Councillor Bob Derbyshire, Cabinet Member for Environment said “Students responded in style to this campaign last year, with over 18 tonnes of re-usable items donated to charity and a 14% increase in recycling recorded.
“Fareshare Cymru will be re-distributing any food collected to help fight food poverty, the YMCA will use the items collected to directly reinvest in projects and services for homeless people.
“The student community is an important and vibrant part of the Cardiff social landscape and the city Council urges all students in the area to make use of the additional reuse services and this fantastic reuse and recycling campaign which plays an important part in making Cardiff a cleaner, greener and more sustainable city.”
