A conference in Cardiff next week will highlight some of the innovative energy efficiency and renewable energy projects managed by City of Cardiff Council. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Over the past 3 years the Council’s Energy and Sustainability department have won a series of innovation funding bids that have allowed them to work with private sector innovators. The projects have developed first-of-a kind technologies aimed at increasing energy efficiency and lowering carbon emissions. The event will showcase these, including a ‘floor robot’ developed to lay under floorboard insulation, new generation wireless heating controls, large scale portable solar devices, and a project that identified and is using a major, previously unknown renewable heat resource in the ground water beneath Cardiff. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The projects are all externally funded, predominantly through Innovate UK, Welsh Government and the EU. Some of these funders will also be presenting at the conference, ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Cabinet Member for Transport, Planning and Sustainability, Cllr Ramesh Patel said: “I am very proud of the pioneering green energy projects that have been externally funded but run by Cardiff Council. This Energy Innovation Cardiff conference provides an opportunity to showcase some of these projects and I’m looking forward to meeting representatives from some of the companies we’ve been working with to build a greener future.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

City of Cardiff Council was the first Local Authority in the UK to run schemes under the UK Government’s Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI), managing innovation competitions “Heritage Retrofit” solutions and “portable renewables” technology. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Local Partnerships is a key sponsor for the event and is a joint venture between HM Treasury and the Local Government Association. It helps the public sector deliver major projects which ensure that key priorities are delivered at a local level. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The Energy Innovation Cardiff conference is to be held at the SSE Swalec Stadium on Wednesday 19 October and starts at 9am. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
