Last week 28 streets were fully cleansed and over five tonnes of litter removed in the Riverside area of Cardiff.
The clear-up was organised as part of the ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign which has removed over 88 tonnes of extra rubbish from Cardiff’s streets – on top of normal cleansing operations – since the scheme began last autumn.
City of Cardiff Council works with community groups and Keep Wales Tidy in order to run this initiative which is designed to nourish a sense of pride in local communities.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Bob Derbyshire said: “Once again I would like to thank the community groups involved for such sterling work. I certainly appreciate the effort that goes into the ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign and from what I hear on the streets so does the wider community. But it’s a shame that such work is necessary in the first place. We have to keep hammering home the message that irresponsible disposal of waste is simply not acceptable.”
Plasnewydd is targeted this week before the campaign moves to the outer wards starting with Pentyrch and Radyr.
