Positive community support for Llanishen Hub
The proposed development of a new community hub in Llanishen has received overwhelming support from people in the local area.
Following community consultation in November and December last year, 93 per cent of survey respondents who expressed an opinion were in agreement with the proposals to develop a hub in the Llanishen police station building.
The project forms part of the Council’s Hubs Programme which aims to improve and extend citizen services through the development of community hubs in priority neighbourhood areas.
At its next meeting at City Hall on March 10, Cabinet will consider whether to proceed with the development of the Llanishen hub.
Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury, said: “Hubs bring together services in a way that responds to the needs and priorities of individual communities. It’s very encouraging that such a high percentage of the people who engaged with us in the consultation are supportive of the proposal.
“Hubs allow the Council to improve services, making them more accessible and convenient, bringing them closer to people, while at the same time making savings by reducing the number of buildings we have and sharing costs with partners.”

It is proposed that the new hub will be located in the ground-floor of Llanishen police station, at the heart of the local shopping centre.
The space will be fully refurbished to provide a library with children’s area, PCs, interview, training and multi-use rooms as well as a range of services such as housing, welfare and benefit advice and into work and training support, delivered by multi-skilled customer service staff.
There will also be digital inclusion support, money advice and free phone and online access to other Council and partner services. The new hub’s library provision will replace the existing Llanishen Library in Kimberley Terrace which is a leased property and constrained in terms of size and condition.
Cllr Bradbury added: “Llanishen Hub is a positive example of partnership working between the Council and Police authority in using assets to benefit the local community.”
