Starting Work On Y Bala Learning Campus

Some pupils from schools in Y Bala with representatives from Gwynedd Council and Wynne Construction at the turf cutting ceremony to note the beginning of construction work on the new £10 million Learning Campus in the town ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Pupils from schools in Y Bala joined Gwynedd Council representatives and building contractors Wynne Construction have recently attended a turf cutting ceremony to mark the beginning of construction work on the new Learning Campus that will open its doors in September 2018. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The joint investment of £10 million, by Gwynedd Council and the Welsh Government, as part of the 21st Century Schools and Education Programme, will ensure that the area’s children are taught on a site that provides a modern suitable learning environment for the 21st century as well as protecting the long-term future of post-16 education and the rural schools within the catchment-area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Education said: “It is a very exciting period for the Penllyn area as the re-organisation plan for Y Bala will lead to the establishment of a school with resources and a learning environment fir for the of 21st century. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This innovative model is one that could be used for future provision in other catchment-areas, contributing towards improving the quality of education and ensuring the viability and effectiveness of public services through the sharing and co-location of services.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

After submitting a successful grant application to the Football Association of Wales, it is expected that the work on installing a 3G synthetic pitch on Maes Tegid will commence in early summer, and the new pitch will open early in the autumn term. As well as the arrangement where pupils from the local school can use the field during school hours, it is envisaged that the 3G pitch will form part of important additional community services serving Y Bala and the neighbouring area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Contractors, Wynne construction will commence work on the site during the summer holidays, with the new Campus opening officially in September 2018. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
