Statement On Allegations Of Removing Political Boards
A Spokesman for the City of Cardiff Council said: “Allegations that the City of Cardiff Council is removing political boards from private gardens is completely incorrect and without foundation.
“The Council position is clear – no political signposting for any party is allowed in communal, Council-owned areas. Advice has been provided by the Monitoring Officer on this matter and implemented by operational staff correctly.
“A similar situation arose when Vote Leave fly posters, for the EU Referendum, appeared overnight on Council property in the city. They were removed and the campaign group was notified to desist, or face being charged for any future removals.
“Last night, further allegations were made on social media by the Plaid Cymru candidate for Cardiff West, Neil McEvoy. These allegations were specific to Gorse Place in Fairwater and accused the Council of sending staff out in the early hours of the morning to remove political sign posts from private gardens. These claims have no basis in reality.
“We repeat, the Council has not removed political boards from private properties.
