Wales vs. France Travel Advice
Enhanced security measures will be in operation so leave plenty of time for your journey
A full road closure will be in place in Cardiff City Centre from 6.05pm until 11.05pm on Friday for Wales vs. France at the Principality Stadium.
As the game is taking place on a Friday evening and the road closures are scheduled to take place at 6.05pm, the Authorities are advising visitors, commuters and residents that the roads will be busier than normal – when a fixture is held during the weekend – due to rush hour traffic.
Cllr Ramesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Planning, Transport and Sustainability, said: “We ask everyone who works in Cardiff, or plans to travel into Cardiff on Friday to plan ahead. Road closures will be operation from shortly after 6pm, so this will mean that the highway network is very busy during this period. “
Following the game, the roads are due to re-open shortly after 11pm but this may be extended subject to the number of revellers in the city centre and crowd safety after the match.
With 74 000 spectators expected to travel in to Cardiff on Friday evening, everyone is being advised that enhanced security measures will be in operation to enter the stadium. If you bring a bag, expect to be searched and be advised that this may delay you from getting into the stadium on time.
Given the additional security arrangements, the Authorities are advising spectators to leave plenty of time for your journey to get into the city centre and the stadium.
The operational arrangements for Wales vs. Scotland were relatively successful, but the Council is advising all visitors that wish to use park or ride or park in the Civic Centre to pre book through the following website:

The queuing system at Cardiff Central Train station has been modified since the Wales vs. Scotland game, to allow for building developments in Central Square. The queuing system for Cardiff Central is attached and the Authorities and travel operators are strongly advising those using the trains to identify their queuing lane for their return journey before the match begins.
Full road closure from 6.05pm until 11.05pm:
- The following roads will be closed in their entirety: – Duke Street, Castle Street, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road
- Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street
- Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street
- Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street (access for residents & traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment.
- Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street (access for residents & traders will bepermitted)
The following roads will be closed from 8.05pm until 11.05pm
- Saunders Road from its junction with St Mary Street
- Customhouse Street throughout its length (access to private car parks will be permitted)
- Penarth Road from its junction with Saunders Road to the entrance leading into the rear of the Central Train Station
Park and Ride – Pentwyn and Cardiff City Centre:
The car parks will have a staff presence from 12 noon, will open at 12 30pm with the fist bus leaving at
12.30pm. The last bus will leave the pick-up point at 11.30pm, with the car parks closing at 12 midnight.

Cardiff City Stadium (Leckwith) P&R
Access from Junction 33 of the M4, then follow signage to site
Drop Off Point is Tresillian Way North (at the rear of Cardiff Central Train Station)
Cost: £8 Pre Book Online or £10 payable on the day at the car park (cash only)
Distance from City Centre is 1.8miles.
Match-Day Parking – Cars, camper vans and coaches
Civic Centre: Access to the Civic Centre will be controlled, with access allowed only for match-day parking, loading and access to private car parks. Roads affected include, King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, City Hall Road, College Road and Gorsedd Gardens Road.
All coaches are advised that they have to park in the Civic Centre (£20 a coach) and NOT in Sophia Gardens.
Match day parking for cars can also be pre-booked online for £12 a car or £15 to be paid on the day.
Civic Centre overnight parking is also available for £20 a car/camper van (pre-book) or £25 payable on the day.
Disabled Parking is available at Sophia Gardens, free of charge to Blue Badge Holders. Disabled Parking is also available by various private car park operators, please check individual websites for availability.

Shopping Parking-Shoppers are advised to make use of car parks within the city centre area, which include:

Capitol Shopping Centre
NCP – Adam Street, Dumfries Place and Greyfriars Road
National Express-National Express coaches will use Sophia Gardens as usual. Sophia Gardens can only be used for match day parking.
Trains -.Arriva Trains Wales advise people to head to the station as soon as possible after the game due to the limited capacity because of the late kick-off.
There will be a new queuing system at Cardiff Central Train Station for Wales vs. France (map attached), please visit www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/principalitystadium/ for more information. We strongly advise you identify your queuing lane for your return journey before you attend the event. Queen Street Station will close shortly before the end of the event, all trains will then depart from Cardiff Central Train Station
Buses –will be diverted out of the central city centre bus stops. Bus displaced from stops within the closure will relocate to either Churchill Way for the East. Greyfriars Road for the North or Tudor Street for the West. Please visit www.cardiffbus.co.uk for more information.
Taxis –Night-time closures of Lower St Mary Street and Greyfriars Road will be in effect from 8pm until 4am and taxi marshals will be in place.
St Mary Street Taxi Rank (Outside House of Fraser) will be closed from 6.05pm and re-open from11.05pm. Mill Lane Taxi Rank is not affected and open throughout the day and night.
