The impact on waste collection services in Cardiff is expected to continue after Unite announced that its members will continue to strike.
Unite said that its members, including those at Cardiff council, will continue to strike over nationally negotiated pay awards for a further three weeks.
The council’s collection of garden waste, hygiene waste and some recycling is already being affected by strike action which started on September 4.
This was due to end on September 18, however the union has advised that after a week-long break the strike action will recommence from September 25 to October 16.
In a statement, Cardiff council said: “Due to the extended strike, other council services may now become impacted by industrial action.
“We will let residents know as soon as we can what services are affected if this happens. Please check our social media accounts daily for updates.
“As you know, some waste streams have already been affected by the strike and we expect these services to continue to be impacted between now and October 16 – but we want you to know that we are doing everything we can to minimise any impact on you.”
So far, the collection of black bin bags and food waste has remained unchanged.
The collection of garden waste will be cancelled until industrial action ends on October 16 and the collection of hygiene waste may have to be suspended from September 25 to October 16.
Garden waste can be brought to either Lamby Way or Bessemer Close recycling centres by making an appointment according to the council.
If hygiene waste is suspended during the strike, any hygiene waste unable to be stored can be put out alongside your black bin or black bags on your scheduled fortnightly collection day.
The council’s statement continues: “If any of your waste isn’t collected on your scheduled collection day, we ask residents to bring their waste back into the confines of their property and to put it out on the next scheduled collection day.
“To ensure the council can continue to collect most of your black bins and black bags, food waste, and recycling, new collection arrangements are being prepared in case they are required during the strike.
“It is also possible other changes may have to be announced during the industrial action due to further unforeseen disruption.
“Because of this, and because the situation could change on a daily basis, we are asking that you please ignore any collection notifications which you have signed up to until strike action ends.
“Instead, on the day of your collection, check the collection calendar either on our website here Check my collection dates (cardiff.gov.uk),  or via the Cardiff Gov App, or by using Bobi, our chatbot.
“We will also update our social media channels daily. Please share the news with your family, friends and neighbours who live on your street.”
The council has said that weekly green bag recycling collections will be collected on the same day as your general (black bag) waste. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
