Sport Cardiff is pleased to announce that following 18 competitions across 15 sports, the winners of the Cardiff Games Secondary School Competition for 2015-2016 are Ysgol Glantaf in the Cardiff area and Bryn Hafren Comprehensive in the Vale of Glamorgan area.
Following close behind in the Cardiff area were Fitzalan High School and Ysgol Bro Edern in second and third place respectively. In the Vale of Glamorgan area, Ysgol Bro Morgannwg and Cowbridge Comperhensive ranked second and third respectively.
This year’s Cardiff Games saw 6,783 pupils of varying abilities compete and represent their school at Cardiff’s best sporting venues including the International White Water Centre, Boulders Climbing Centre and Cardiff University’s playing fields.
Working in partnership with National Governing Bodies of Sport and local sports clubs, pupils were given a positive experience of competition and then signposted to their local club exit route. In addition, several competitions lead to Welsh finals whereby schools represent Cardiff and the Vale against other local authorities.
Bryn Hafren competed in 12 of the 18 competitions, with Ysgol Glantaf committing to 14 competitive opportunities for pupils in years 7 to 9.
This has been the first year that Vale schools have been invited to the Games and it proved a popular decision with seven of the high schools based in the Vale taking part, supported by the Vale Sports Development team.
Sport Cardiff will announce the primary school and the disability league winners later in the school year once all competitions have finished.
Sport Cardiff would like to extend a huge thank you to staff and pupils from all the schools for their commitment to the Cardiff Games which promises to be even bigger next year.
