Cardiff Met ‘Travels The World’ With Charity Fundraising, Global Village And Active Challenge
Cardiff Met recently hosted its fourth annual global-themed event to celebrate its international and cultural diversity.
Students and staff were brought together for Global Week and were able to ‘travel the world’ by participating in activities on both campuses.
Students and staff raised funds for Mothers of Africa, a medical educational charity supporting mothers and children of rural Zambia; with a quilt being designed, created and raffled by students from Cardiff School of Art and Design.
Cardiff School of Sport organised a Zambia extravaganza, which included games and a raffle, and raised cash for the Zambia project that helps to improve the lives of children in Zambia through sport.
A ‘global village’ proved popular as international students created a village of stalls to promote their country and teach others about their values and traditions.
Overseas transnational education partners were also fully on-board with Global Week. Students at the Universal Business School in India held a cricket match and students at the Varna University of Management in Bulgaria represented their home countries by dressing in traditional clothes, singing, dancing and cooking traditional meals.
The ‘Global Week Active Challenge’, in collaboration with the Healthy University Strategy, encouraged students and staff to log their physical activity over a week to see how far Cardiff Met could ‘travel’ across the globe. The University clocked up 2,997 miles and managed to reach Canada.
Professor Mohamed Loutfi, Pro Vice Chancellor (International), commented on the success of the 2017 event: “Global Week continues to grow each year with continued enthusiasm from students and staff. Thank you to all students, schools and departments that took part this year.”
