Partners From Across The Globe Attend Partner Conference At Cardiff Met
Every year, Cardiff Metropolitan University hosts a partnership conference for its partners in Wales and overseas. The 2016 partner conference was held recently and saw 31 delegates in attendance from 13 of the University’s partners from Wales, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India, Greece, Morocco, Bulgaria, Oman, Egypt, Lebanon, Bahrain and Cyprus.
The partner conference consisted of a range of sessions and workshops over two days, as well as a conference dinner hosted by Professor Antony Chapman, President and Vice Chancellor. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Cardiff made a most welcome appearance at the conference dinner, which was catered by Cardiff Met International Hospitality and Tourism Management and International Hospitality and Events Management students. The Lord Mayor took the opportunity to celebrate the importance to Cardiff of international links such as those developed by Cardiff Met.
As part of the conference, a presentation was given by Professor Ghassan Aouad, President of the Applied Science University, Cardiff Met’s Transnational Education partner in Bahrain (previously the Pro Vice Chancellor of Research at the University of Salford), on ‘The Art and Science of Doing Research’. Other sessions included quality assurance and enhancement, international strategy and partnership overview, funding to support mobility and exchanges, and developing and supporting partners.
The conference keynote speech was delivered by Mr David Lock, Secretary General of the Magna Charta Observatory and International Advisor to the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education. The speech focused on trends in the internationalisation of higher education and highlighted the challenges and opportunities.
Professor Mohamed Loutfi, Pro Vice Chancellor (International), said: ‘The conference was a major success and the appearance from the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Cardiff, who both expressed their delight at being able to address the delegates from so many partners from all over the world, added to the occasion.’
In his welcome address, Professor Chapman spoke about the strength in transnational education and collaboration with partners at Cardiff Met and mentioned: ‘This conference is important for many reasons. It brings us together to share information, knowledge and good practice. It also gives us the opportunity to build on our relationships.’
