Student Experience projects awarded funding thanks to donations

Recently students and staff have pitched projects they would like to implement to improve the student experience at Cardiff Met. Thirteen projects have been awarded funding to take forward, thanks to philanthropic donations to the University.
The Development and Alumni Relations Office at Cardiff Met receive philanthropic donations from alumni, staff, former staff and friends of the University to benefit a variety of projects.
At the start of 2016, thanks to these donations, the Student Experience Fund was established. Students and staff were encouraged to think of projects that could improve the student experience. They were given the opportunity to apply for funding, pitching the details and the costs to implement these projects themselves.
In total, thirteen projects were successful, each receiving an award of up to £2,000. These include Student Wellbeing and Stress management sessions, a student radio station, Pop-up Play and a build-a-camera workshop, to name a few.
Helen Gunter, is currently studying BSc Hons Complementary Healthcare and received £1,400 to take forward her Student Wellbeing and Stress Management sessions. She said, “managing stress levels can have such a positive impact and I’m thrilled that we’ll be able to carry out treatments to help students de-stress and show them some self-help techniques that they can use in daily life.”
Professor Jacqui Hare, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of Student Experience commented on the Student Experience Fund, “Opportunities like this are ideal for us. Students and staff have a wealth of ideas on how to improve the student experience and it is great to be able to take the very best of these ideas forward. We are extremely grateful to all of the donors that made this possible and we look forward to seeing the success of these projects as they progress.”
