Academic’s Greek Growth Challenge

Professor Kevin Morgan has been invited personally by the Greek Economy and Development Minister to help the country craft a new growth strategy. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He will join a newly formed 11-member Scientific Development Council to develop a plan to strengthen growth in Greece over the next five years. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The EU and the IMF expect Greece’s economy to expand by 2.7% this year following growth of 0.3% last year. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Professor Morgan, of the School of Geography and Planning, said it was a great honour to be invited to contribute to the country’s new growth plan by Economy and Development Minister Dimitri Papadimitriou. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The first meeting of the Scientific Development Council is taking place in Athens on Friday 10 March. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
