Cardiff University Nominated For Three NHS Wales Awards

Cardiff University is celebrating after three of its projects made the finals of this year’s NHS Wales Awards. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The university is up for the following awards: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Promoting Clinical Research and Application to Practice (supported by British Medical Association Cymru Wales) for joint project to establish a dedicated clinical research unit to give patients access to new Phase 1 trial drugs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Students Improving Patient Safety and Quality (supported by 1000 Lives Improvement Student and Educator Community) for two joint projects: ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

• for work to develop a digital data collection platform for Wales
• for designing a gaming app prototype to measure children’s vision

The annual NHS Wales Awards celebrate the work of organisations and teams across Wales in delivering excellent care and the winners will be announced in a ceremony on 23 September 2016. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This year the Awards received 167 entries and the judging panel of NHS experts had the tough task of selecting the 24 finalists in eight award categories. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The next stage is for the judging panels to visit each finalist to find out more and see first-hand the benefits they’ve brought to patients. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The NHS Wales Awards are organised by 1000 Lives which is the national improvement service for NHS Wales delivered by Public Health Wales. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

They were launched in 2008 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the NHS. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
