Ground Preparation Starts At Cardiff Innovation Campus

Work is underway to prepare the ground at Cardiff Innovation Campus. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Contractors Kier Group plc are removing spoil ahead of works which are due to start in April as part of a £135m investment in Cardiff University’s future. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The brownfield site, on Maindy Road, Cardiff, formerly operated as a railway yard. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Dev Biddlecombe, Director of Estates & Campus Facilities, Cardiff University, said: “Spoil clearing will pave the way for spring works on the foundations for two major new buildings which will house four new facilities dedicated to science, technology, business and innovation. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“It forms part of Cardiff University’s largest campus upgrade for a generation, and brings benefits to the wider Maindy Road community including public open spaces, interconnected footpaths and a new footbridge over the railway line to the north of the site.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Cardiff University is working with Kier Group to deliver the Cardiff Innovation Campus, which will host the Institute for Compound Semiconductors, Cardiff Catalysis Institute, the world’s first Social Science Research Park (Spark) and an innovation centre. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
