People Head To Hundreds Of Festivals Each Year Across The UK
Millions of people head to hundreds of festivals each year across the UK, from Glastonbury to Green Man, and T in the Park. But, what is the secret to a good festival?
In an event at Cardiff University, leading figures in the world of festivals and academics from across the arts, humanities and social sciences will be considering the nature of festivals and their impact.
Spotlight on Festivals, held on 27th March 2017 features speakers including Jon Drape (Festival No.6), Steve Muggeridge (Green Gathering) and Gwilym Evans (Welsh Government Major Events Unit).
Exploring the current state of play and future challenges facing the industry, speakers will address the effect the burgeoning festival landscape has on the culture, economy and environment of Britain, and explore issues such as how to enhance the positive impacts of festivals and reduce any negative impacts?
Chair of Cardiff University’s Festivals Research Group, Dr Jacqui Mulville, of the School of History, Archaeology and Religion, said: “Wales has a thriving music scene with a number of award winning festivals…”
“This event will showcase our findings, encourage participants to share ideas and to explore prospects for future collaboration.
“Festivals are a key part of British culture and economy. Festival audiences are growing and the festivals landscape, both urban and rural, is dynamic and diverse…”
Spotlight on Festivals takes place on Monday 27 March in the University’s Glamorgan Building (14:00 – 17:00, Committee Rooms 1 and 2). Booking is compulsory for this free event.
