400th Anniversary Of Shakespeare’s Death

Visitors to Llanelli Library were invited to join in the celebrations to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Readings from some of Shakespeare’s most popular and familiar works were presented by Llanelli’s Phoenix Theatre Group in a promenade performance, entitled from ‘Bard to Verse’. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Phoenix Director W Noel Rees said: “Some members of the public stayed for the whole selection of Shakespeare’s works whilst others drifted in and out.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

This very different and successful event held at Llanelli Library created a new interest in some of Shakespeare’s works and Library Services Manager Mark Jewell said: “The Phoenix Theatre Group have already successfully performed several times for us when they presented a selection of readings at the opening of the Refurbishment of the Library, at the formation of the Stepney Branch of the WI and at a Murder Mystery evening at all our major Library Branches.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
