A Food Assembly Comes To Carmarthen
Carmarthen is to host its first ever Food Assembly.
The online platform will offer people a new way to support local businesses by buying fresh food directly from local farmers and markets, helping to boost the local economy.
Every week customers will be able to shop for their food groceries, choosing from a wide range of fresh and local produce, such as fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese, meat and so on, before picking it up at local venue.
All the food will come from an average distance of 28 miles, compared to the 600 with a supermarket. Already 134 customers have signed up.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s deputy leader, Cllr Pam Palmer said: “The Food Assembly is a healthy alternative to the supermarket and is a great way of supporting local farmers and food makers. It ensures customers get the very best of fresh locally sourced produce and farmers get a fair price for their work. It’s very simple and everyone is a winner.”
Locals will have the opportunity to meet farmers and foodmakers, taste food samples and see where the food comes from when it launches later this month.
Carmarthen Food Assembly organizer, Carrie Laxton said: “I want to make a local food hub in Carmarthen that connects people, where we share more than just money for goods. It will make good local food more accessible to local people as well as supporting local producers.
