Budding Film Makers Nominated At Festival

Two schools in Carmarthenshire have been nominated for awards at an International Youth Film Festival. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Ysgol Rhydygors in Carmarthen won the 13-18 Best Animation category with their film Missing Bargains at the Zoom International Youth Film Festival held at the Sony Theatre in Bridgend on March 18. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Pupils from Ysgol Glan y Môr and Bryngwyn Federation School were nominated for the 8-13 Best Film category with their film The Lost Hat and also 8-13 Best Animation with their film Litter Bugs. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

All the budding film makers attended the red-carpet event with Huw Leonard, IT Film and Multimedia Youth Worker and School Based Youth Workers, Jo Rogers, Tim Bowen and Paul Williams. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The 12-week multimedia project, provided by Carmarthenshire County Council’s Youth Support Service, offers young people aged between 11-25 an opportunity to try their hand at film making, creating music and much more. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Youth worker Jo Rogers said: “Well done to all the young people who took part. It was great to see their faces as they saw their hard work on the big screen.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The use of film develops learners’ digital skills and gives them a different way of communication their ideas and feelings.
