Carmarthenshire County Council has helped secure a new 3G football pitch in Carmarthen, which will be used as a community provision. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Executive board members have agreed to inject £150,000 towards the total cost of £560k needed to replace Carmarthen Town AFC’s existing pitch to an all weather one. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The community project will benefit young people from across the town and will be used by primary schools, a special needs unit, family centres, youth clubs and University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD). ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The pitch will also be suitable for disabled sport with accessible changing rooms and a community learning centre.
It comes after the council was asked to provide the shortfall to Carmarthen Town AFC after it secured £410,000 of the £560,000 needed. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The council’s execuitve board member for resources, Cllr David Jenkins said: “Executive board members were pleased to step in and provide the funding needed to install this new all-weather pitch. The club’s intention is to help create a wider community benefit by helping and supporting young people to reach their full potential and live fulfilled lives through increased use of their facilities and working in partnership with local groups and organisations including primary schools (one of which has a special needs unit), most of which either have inadequate or no outside facilities.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

The funding has been provided from the council’s 2016/2017 revenue budget. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Some £350,000 has been provided by the Football Association of Wales (FAW), £30,000 from Grantscape and £30,000 from UWTSD. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
