Council workshops exporting Welsh Ladies globally

Welsh ladies are winging round the world in time for St David’ Day. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The ceramic black hatted ornaments are being created at the rate of 50 a day from kilns at Carmarthenshire Council’s Cam Cyntaf Steps 2 scheme, which provides training opportunities for adults with leaning difficulties. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

More than 20 service users have been involved on the Welsh Lady production line, with sales of £20,000 sales expected. All the proceeds ploughed back into Cam Cyntaf council service, based on the Cillefwr Industrial Estate off Alltynap Road. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The service offers various basic skill workshops such as woodwork, IT skills, pottery and art and crafts, as well as basic cooking and gardening skills. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Service acting lead Gill Jones said: “In the last week we have had a personal order shipped out to America and enquiries from gift shops in Llandeilo and Narberth. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“We have made shipments to New Zealand and Canada and every year we are making more and more.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
