Discover The Wildlife At Morfa Berwig

A site at Morfa Berwig in Bynea has applied for designation to become Carmarthenshire’s newest Local Nature Reserve. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

People are now being urged to visit it as part of the celebrations for Wales Biodiversity Week taking place from June 4 – 12. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) are for both people and wildlife, they are places with wildlife or geological features that are of special interest locally. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

They offer people special opportunities to study or learn about nature or simply to enjoy it. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Carmarthenshire’s Biodiversity Partnership is inviting people to join them at the site, due to be designated shortly, at Morfa Berwick to discover the wildlife there. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The county council’s executive board member for biodiversity Cllr Pam Palmer said: “From botany to birdlife and bees to bats a week of events have been arranged so that people can find out more about the wildlife on this fascinating site – Carmarthenshire’s newest nature reserve. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“At first glance Morfa Berwig might not seem that exciting but there is a lot to see when you take a closer look. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“So if you are an early bird join us for a walk to catch the bird song or if you are a night owl come along to the bat and moth evening. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“There are also walks with the Llanelli Naturalists and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
