Dog Owner Fined For Not Cleaning Up In Play Area

A dog owner has been fined after he failed to clean up after his dog in the children’s play area in Ammanford park. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Environmental enforcement officers were on patrol in the area at the time of the offence. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The owner was seen walking away from the dog mess. When the officers spoke to him he admitted that he did not have anything on him to clean it up. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £75. Failure to pay could result in court prosecution where the maximum fine is £1,000. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said he was appalled that someone had failed to clean up after their dog in a children’s play area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“I cannot believe that someone would enter a children’s play area with a dog and without the means to clean up if it were to defecate,” he said. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Not only is dog mess extremely unpleasant but there are also health implications to consider as well. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“This type of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated and anyone caught will be fined.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Residents are being urged to help the council catch offenders by reporting dog fouling offences in their area. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
