Executive Board To Consider Notices Of Motion
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board will consider a number of motions brought to Council by local members.
During Full Council (on Wednesday, February 22), three notices of motion were put forward on a range of issues including bathing water quality, plans to focus attention on rural communities, and a proposal to celebrate famous Welsh hymn writer William Williams.
Cllr Sian Caiach, of Hengoed ward, asked councillors to support her motion for the council to monitor water quality on non-designated bathing beaches during the swimming season as a matter of public safety.
Council Leader Cllr Emlyn Dole argued that this was not necessary as designated bathing beaches are already tested, however following a vote Cllr Caiach’s motion was carried.
Cllr Peter Hughes Griffiths, of Carmarthen Town North ward, asked Council to consider establishing a working group to deliver evidence-based strategies and policies in relation to rural areas and to create an action plan for regeneration.
Although Council considered whether such work should be carried out across the county, and not just in rural areas, Cllr Hughes Griffiths’s motion was supported.
Cllr Alun Lenny, of Carmarthen Town South ward, asked councillors to support him in calling for a special event to commemorate the tri-centenary of hymn writer William Williams of Pantycelyn, who penned several famous hymns including one that was adapted to become the well-known ‘Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah’.
Cllr Lenny also asked that the council promotes Williams as one of the county’s legends in all promotions during the year-long Visit Wales campaign ‘Year of Legends’.
Council unanimously agreed in favour of his motion.
All three items will now be discussed by Executive Board.
