Join Us For Welsh Week!
Welsh week runs from Saturday February 25 to Saturday March 4 and the activities start with a St David’s Parade – Parêd Dewi Sant on the first Saturday.
The colourful and cultural street parade featuring music, local clubs and organisations will travel through Carmarthen town centre.
It will be led by Nan Lewis, Mererid Hopwood and Fflur Dafydd celebrating the literary success of the women of Carmarthenshire.
Everybody is welcome to participate in the parade and people will be entertained at Carmarthen Park from 10.30am, ready for 11am set off from the main entrance of Carmarthen Park.
To get in the spirit of all things Welsh, Carmarthen Market is offering free Welsh produce tasting for market visitors, Welsh Folk music from 9am – 11am and a free arts and crafts workshop between 10.30am and 1pm.
Come and enjoy three interactive shows between 11.30am and 3.30pm at St. Catherine’s walk, where they bring to life myth and mystery surrounding the ancient story of how the Red Dragon came to symbolise all things Welsh.
Children will also be entertained by our two daffodil themed stilt walkers who will be giving out free treats.
Free parking will be available at all council car parks.
On Wednesday, March 1, children from around Carmarthen will bring a sense of place to the town as they hold their annual St. David’s celebration.
Carmarthen Town Council, in conjunction with Menter Gorllewin Sir Gar, will bring together school pupils from Richmond Park, Johnstown, Mode , Ysgol Myrddin and Ysgol y Dderwen.
They will perform an array of traditional music, song and dance to entertain the crowds along with local musicians.
