Man in court for dropping cigarette end

A man who dropped a cigarette end in the Co-op car park in Cross Hands has been prosecuted in court.
Jonathan Alan Simon Brent was convicted in absence to an offence contrary to Section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 at Carmarthen Magistrates Court.
The court heard that he was seen dropping a cigarette end by council environmental enforcement officers in the Co-op car park in Cross Hands on Saturday, August 1.
He was issued with a fixed penalty notice for the offence; however, he failed to pay it, despite a reminder letter being sent.
Brent, aged 43, of Beulah Road, Walthamstow, London, was fined £75 by magistrates and ordered to pay prosecution costs of £150 plus a £20 victim surcharge.
Executive Board Member for Environmental and Public Protection Cllr Jim Jones said: “We have a zero tolerance approach to littering in Carmarthenshire.
“Keeping the county clean for both residents and visitors is a high priority. Dropping litter is against the law and anyone caught will be fined.”
