Missing Man Rescued from Riverbank in Swansea

A MISSING man was rescued from a riverbank in Swansea after he had entered the water.
The alarm was raised shortly after 6.30am on Saturday, December 16, when somebody was heard calling for help from a bank on the River Tawe, St Thomas.
Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Swansea Central, Swansea West and Carmarthen, including a water rescue team. South Wales Police also attended, and the 29-year-old man was recovered following a riverbank search.
A meeting of the Mid and West Wales Fire Authority on December 18 was told that the casualty, who had been reported missing for more than 24 hours, was suffering from severe hypothermia and was taken by ambulance to Morriston Hospital. Fire service teams left the scene at 8.20am.
South Wales Police said it was alerted shortly after 6.30am by a report of a man in difficulty on the riverbank. “After a search of both sides of the river a 29-year-old man was located,” said a spokesman.
A Welsh Ambulance Service spokeswoman said it was called at 7:26am to the incident. “We sent one emergency ambulance to the scene, where the crew was supported by a high-acuity response unit paramedic and an operations manager,” she said. “One person was taken to hospital.”
The fire authority meeting also heard that Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating suspected arson at a premises in Bynea, near Llanelli, which firefighters attended in the early hours of Sunday, December 17. There were two areas alight within the building, but no casualties.
The premises wasn’t named, but Dyfed-Powys Police said in a statement that it was The Loaded Lounge, previously known as The Hideaway cafe. “Police received a call just after 1.40am, Sunday December 17, reporting a fire at an unit in the industrial estate in Bynea,” said a police spokeswoman.
