National Recognition For Council’s Social Care Staff

Carmarthenshire County Council’s social care staff have been recognised for their work in a national awards ceremony. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Five staff members and two teams were commended by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW) Wales at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The council was rewarded with certificates of merit in every category in the prestigious annual awards, and Cllr Eryl Morgan, Chair of Council, recently met the staff involved to congratulate them on their achievements. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Team Manager Kenneth Lloyd, was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Certificate of Merit for his commitment to mental health social work. This coincided with Kenneth’s recent retirement and recognised the difference that he has made to the lives of vulnerable individuals during his working career. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Social worker Janet Davies was also commended for her lifetime commitment to working directly with service users as well as her high standard of social work. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Assistant Team Manager, Jan Evans, was recognised in the Innovative Social Worker category for developing the Social Care Induction Framework (SCIF) for Shared Lives Carers in Wales. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Team manager, Clare Yarnton, was successful in the Practice Teaching Award for her invaluable contribution to the education and development of students and social workers. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

For her skills in direct work with young people and families and going ‘above and beyond the call of duty’ senior practitioner, Sarah Lloyd, was also recognised. Sarah developed a training package (‘Young People in Crisis’) which has helped to assist understanding the needs of young people. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Carmarthenshire Substance Misuse Team and Tywi, Teifi, Taf (3Ts) social work team were both given certificates for exceptional practice and achievement for their service users/carers in the Social Work Team category. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Executive board member for health and social care, Cllr Jane Tremlett said: “These awards promote the positive aspects of our profession, great social work practice and supportive organisations. What an achievement for Carmarthenshire County Council’s social care team, we had commendations in every category and it just goes to show their dedication and commitment. We are extremely proud of the team we have in Carmarthenshire.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​
