Parkrun Comes To Llanelli’s Coast
Llanelli is to host its first parkrun at the Millennium Coastal Park.
Runners are being urged to pull on their trainers and take part in this free timed 5K sporting activity every Saturday from November 19.
parkrun is a hugely popular running movement which has been set up by volunteers with support from the council’s sport and leisure team which secured £3k match funding from Sport Wales.
The course takes in some breath taking views and is run entirely on tarmac paths, starting on the cycle path at Pwll Park. Runners will head west towards Burry Port and at the halfway point, a marshal will direct runners back to the finish, just outside the Pavilion Café.
Adults need to register on the parkrun website where they can print their own bar code at home to scan when they complete the course. They’ll also be able to check their progress and timings on the website’s results page.
Carmarthenshire County Council leader, Cllr Emlyn Dole said: “parkrun is now an international family of over half a million runners and growing. We are always keen to support initiatives that promote the health and wellbeing of our communities and are really pleased that this event is coming to Llanelli.”
parkrun is a non-profit running, movement which organises free weekly events around the world and are open to everyone, are free and safe and easy to take part in.
The council’s area sport and leisure manager, Gary Price said: “We’re thrilled to support the introduction of this event in Llanelli. These events are extremely popular and we would encourage adults of every ability to take part. It’s all about bringing people and the community together, having fun, and most importantly keeping fit and healthy.”
