Poplar Trees Removed For H&S Reasons
A group of Poplar trees at Burry Port Memorial Park have been removed for health and safety reasons.
Concerns had been raised by local residents regarding the condition of the trees; which had been shedding large branches.
The council’s arboriculture officer carried out a visual tree assessment and recommended that they were removed on health and safety grounds.
It included four mature Poplar trees that had long leaver arms and were shedding branches on a fairly regular basis.
There were concerns regarding the structure of the trees and the long limbs had cracks due to the weight and wind exposure.
The trees were in a public place and there was a path running under the canopy.
Executive Board Member for the Environment Cllr Hazel Evans said: “Poplar trees when mature shed large limbs during windy conditions, and cause concern when they are in a public area. It was not practical to fence off the trees and the cost of regular pruning was not an option.”
The council’s grounds maintenance section arranged for the trees to be removed. It is planned to plant a line of Lime trees later in the year.
