Youngsters across Carmarthenshire have been praised for their work in inspiring others to take part in sport. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

A celebration has taken place to honour Bronze Ambassadors who encourage other children in their primary schools to take part in sport and physical activity by running break time clubs, speaking in school assemblies and to school governors, inviting local clubs into school as well as helping promote new and existing sport clubs, updating school sport notice boards and websites. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Carmarthenshire County Council’s Actif Sport & Leisure Team co-ordinates the initiative across the county, with Bronze Young Ambassadors in years five and six, 50 ‘Bronze Plus’ in years seven and eight, Silver in years nine and 10, Gold in years 11-13 and Platinum in sixth form and higher education. In total there is a team of over 230 Young Ambassadors recruited and trained to get more people more active more often! ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Leisure executive board member Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “The aim of the event was to thank them for all their hard work and to highlight some good practice. Their role in schools is really important and helps pupils lead an active and healthy lifestyle.” ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌

Actif Sport & Leisure Officers train and help mentor all Young Ambassadors in Carmarthenshire and also hold regular steering group meetings with the Platinum and Gold Young Ambassadors. They also supply coaching resources such as Multi Skills cards in order for pupils to learn how to deliver fun and purposeful sessions to their peers. ‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌
