Public Services Board Begins Work In Carmarthenshire
ALL major public sector organisations in Carmarthenshire are working together to help improve the well-being of people in the county.
A new Public Services Board (PSB) has been set up to help improve social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being in the county.
The PSB, which recently held its first meeting, is a statutory body which replaces the Local Service Board.
There are four statutory members – Carmarthenshire County Council; Hywel Dda University Health Board; Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service; and Natural Resources Wales.
There are also several invited participants including Welsh Government; Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner; Dyfed Powys Police; Carmarthenshire Association of Voluntary Services; Department for Work and Pensions; Coleg Sir Gar; University of Wales Trinity Saint David; National Probation Service; Community Rehabilitation Company; Brecon Beacons National Park Authority; and the Arts Council of Wales.
The PSB was set up to deliver the seven national goals of the Well-being of Future Generations Act, which outlines how public bodies must work, and work together.
The seven goals are:
- A prosperous Wales
- A resilient Wales
- A healthier Wales
- A more equal Wales
- A Wales of cohesive communities
- A Wales of vibrant culture and thriving Welsh language
- A globally responsible Wales
The PSB aims to involve people and communities in making decisions that affect them, and will begin by undertaking a well-being assessment. An online survey will be available from July for people to take part and help inform the process.
PSB Chair Barry Liles said: “We want to make a difference to improving the well-being of people in Carmarthenshire and we need help to do that.
“It’s only by gathering information, listening to people’s views and understanding their needs that we will be able to deliver what we want to achieve – to improve social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being in the county.”
Organisations within the PSB already work together on many partnership projects including the new Wellness and Life Science Village in Delta Lakes; Community Safety; and many others.
The Board meets every two months and the public can submit questions to their meetings by going online to the new website thecarmarthenshirewewant.wales which has been set up with information, news, meeting agendas, e-newsletters and details of partnership projects.
The PSB also has a duty to publish a well-being plan which will outline how it will deliver the seven goals within the act for the people of Carmarthenshire.
