Series Of Local History Reminiscence Sessions

People living with dementia and their carers are reliving the good old days at Llanelli Library with a series of local history reminiscence sessions. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

The events have been organised jointly by the Library Service and the Alzheimer’s Society, and are taking place once a month from April to July at the Vaughan Street venue. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Lyn John, local historian and vice-chairman of Llanelli Community Heritage, recently gave a presentation of old photographs of the town, which was so well-received that he was asked to come back and do another slideshow for the group! ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

Executive board member for regeneration and leisure Cllr Meryl Gravell said: “We are delighted to be working with the Alzheimer’s Society to bring the past to life for local people who are living with dementia. ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

“Our Library Service’s collection includes so many things for them to enjoy and be inspired by.” ‌​‌​‌​​​‍‌​‌​​‌‌‌‍‌​‌‌​​‌​‍‌​‌‌‌​‌‌‍‌​‌‌‌‌​​

More sessions are planned over the coming months covering different themes such as food, music and everyday objects on Wednesdays June 8 and July 13 from 10.30am-12.30pm.
