Volunteers Needed For Beach Blitz
A host of beach clean ups are planned for later this month.
As part of Clean Coast Week four highly populated areas within the Carmarthenshire Coastline will be blitzed for litter.
The search is now on for volunteers to help Keep Wales Tidy and the council’s countryside and coast team clear up the coast. Schools, groups, individuals or organisations are welcome to the event which is sponsored by McDonald’s.
Last year 124 volunteers and organisers collected over 90 black bags of litter during Clean Coast Week.
On Monday, April 25, volunteers are asked to meet at Pembrey Country Park’s car park 2, 9.30am, for a Cefn Sidan clean up. Tuesday, April 26 to meet at Llanelli Beach, 10am. Thursday, April 28 at 10am for a litter pick along Pembrey Link shoreline and if there’s time Burry Port Beach. On Friday, April 29, meet at Burry Port Woodlands car park for 10am.
Volunteers will need to wear suitable clothing and wellingtons or high boots. Litter picking equipment and gloves will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
The council’s countryside and coast manager, Rory Dickinson said: “Given the magnitude of the Carmarthenshire coastline which stretches some eight miles from beginning to end we rely heavily on volunteers to help us maintain this beautiful area as best we can. These annual events are fun and have proved pretty popular in the past, so come along, lend a hand and do your bit for Carmarthenshire.”
For the Pembrey Country Park clean up, volunteers will need to inform staff at the barrier who will allow access without charge.
